Site Preparation in Christchurch

Every straight fence and level patio on this site started as a prepared site: bare scraped earth between townhouses, a long channel pegged out with timber boxing, aggregate beds and sump grates going in before anything else. Site preparation is the groundwork our finished jobs stand on.

What preparation covers

• Site scrapes — construction ground stripped back to a clean, workable surface between new builds.
• Drainage channels and sumps — boxed channels with aggregate beds and grated sumps that carry water off tight sites.
• Boxing and formwork — pegged timber edges for every path, patio and channel pour.
• Base and formation prep — ground worked to the levels and falls the concrete, fences and lawns need.

The sequence our photos show

“Another start to a big project” is how one of our scrape posts puts it: bare earth, string lines, site rubbish cleared, the corridor between white townhouses ready for the digger. Then the channel goes in — ply sheets up against doors, ute and trailer at the head of the site — with pegged boards holding a dead-straight line and gravel bedding the base. Sumps and grates follow, set to finished height so later pours and lawns fall exactly to them.

Preparation that pays off twice

Good prep shows in the finished job and in what never goes wrong: no ponding against foundations because channels were graded to the sump, no cracked edges because boxing held the pour true, no leaning posts because the line was cleared and levelled first. Skipping this stage is the most expensive saving on a residential site, and our townhouse work exists to make sure it never gets skipped.
